For this assignment, you will investigate cancer and design a brochure, presentation OR webpageto inform and educate youth about the cancer risks associated with cigarette smoking, chewing tobacco, too much ultraviolet radiation, drinking alcohol OR another type of carcinogen. Required Elements: □Your name(s), date and title □3-5 minute presentation (except brochure) □Attention-getting picture and slogan (see example…it needs to get their attention!) □List the types of cancer caused by your chosen carcinogen □What is cancer? A description of what cancer is, including… Brief description of what it is (general description) Characteristics of cancer cells Information about how cancer relates to cell division Terminology: e.g. mutation, tumor, benign, malignant and metastasis □Explain how your carcinogen increases the risk of cancer (how it can give rise to cancer) □Describe the treatments available (emphasize how there is no easy treatment and no cure) □Prevention: List the early warning signs of cancer and how it can be prevented □Graphics: provide pictures, drawings, diagrams, etc □Interesting facts (e.g. the # of people affected, effects of cigarette smoking or UV light on cancer rates, etc.) □Information presented in an age-appropriate manner □Bibliography (Works Cited): you should have at least 3 sources listed correctly for your bibliography.
